About the Author

Andrew Staniforth, North East Counter Terrorism Unit, West Yorkshire Police,Police National Legal Database (PNLD)

Andrew Staniforth is an experienced counter-terrorism investigator who is responsible for designing and delivering training to counter-terrorism officers at one of the four specialist Counter Terrorism Units in the UK. He has been commended for his work on counter-terrorism training by West Yorkshire Police and has also been involved in developing national exercises to examine the preparedness of both covert and overt police counter terrorism assets.

The Police National Legal Database (PNLD) is a comprehensive legal database covering all legal information that police officers are required to know. It is housed within West Yorkshire Police Training School at Bishopsgarth in Wakefield and is the official online legal database used by the 43 police forces in England & Wales.

Professor Clive Walker is a specialist in terrorism, the law and police powers and is widely published on the subject.

Commander Stuart Osborne oversees the newly established Police National CT Network and is responsible for leading the operational and professional development of the CT network.

"I'm not a danger junkie," Burkett (Another Planet, etc.) declared at the start of her Fulbright year with her husband in Kyrgyzstan on September 18, 2001. In a burst of midlife ennui, the two wanted to move somewhere where she could teach and they could both recharge their cultural batteries. The process of elimination led the pair to this small central Asian republic of the former Soviet Union, advertised as having a "liberal media" and "actively pursuing ethnic tolerance and democratization." When they arrived in Kyrgyzstan, reality overtook them. While appointed to teach "American-style" journalism, Burkett found students so shaped by Stalinist culture, it was all she could do to make them ask questions, much less stir controversy. Unable to resist a little adventure, she and her husband visited Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. When invited, Burkett hosted forums on the media, which usually turned into brouhahas critiquing potential U.S. intervention in Iraq. In Afghanistan, she met with a series of educated women who'd been terrorized by the Taliban and remained fearful. As Burkett walked in Kabul in her burqa, getting elbowed and bruised by men who "walked down the street as if the women simply weren't there," she decided the struggles in Central Asia were more an attempt by hardcore traditionalists to fight modernization than about religion per se. Few readers would actually want to face a dinner of roasted goat brains or dodge bombs on the highway passing the Tora Bora caves; reading Burkett's snappy, witty account nicely suffices.

Moving to Kyrgyzstan shortly before September 11, journalist Burkett and her husband decided to stay in this predominantly Muslim country despite some very valid initial misgivings. Not only did she opt to remain in Central Asia but she also used the opportunity to travel throughout the region, seeking out both adventure and information in an era of great uncertainty. Burkett's subsequent travelogue is a fascinating first-person account detailing the vagaries of life in a decidedly non-American--and sometimes anti-American--setting. Whether recounting personal experiences or interviewing a diverse cross-section of native Iraqis, Iranians, Afghans, Uzbekistanis, Kazakhstanis, and Kyrgyzstanis, she provides an intimate glimpse into everyday life in nations struggling to establish their own unique post-cold war identities. Interestingly enough, despite the tenuous world situation, she encountered very little blatant hatred directed toward herself as either a woman or an American. Though tourists won't be flocking to this remote and seemingly dangerous comer of the globe, they will appreciate viewing it through the experienced eyes of an intrepid female journalist. Elinor Burkett: Today's Marco Polo

Just finished Elinor Burkett's So Many Enemies, So Little Time.

I liked it a lot. It's really a Marco Polo travel diary for today. Burkett provides needed background to world events, in a lively personal style. Fun to read, and you can think about it afterwards, too. The book recounts Burkett's adventures in Kyrgystan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Russia, Burma (officially Myanmar), China, Vietnam, and Cambodia during the 2001-2002 events, when she was a Fulbright Scholar. I agree with her view that the Fulbright program is one US government initiative that really works as it was intended. She explains how her view of the world changed after her experience teaching abroad in the wake of 9/11--just the kind of growth experience Senator Fulbright wanted. Burkett has a real gift for noticing the interesting detail. Her description of the little things at her university in Bishkek--such as wandering around the hall trying to find a classroom after being kicked out for some sort of seminar--tracked pretty exactly to my experience at UWED in Tashkent (which I was pleased to see she called the Harvard of Central Asia). Burkett's observations are generally acute, the most telling ones based on her personal confrontations with age-old traditions.

Most of all, I enjoyed Burkett's Kyrgyz anecdotes, which I think reflect a certain mentality--and reality--in the region. Here's a sample:

While walking in the countryside, two Uzbeks and two Kyrgyz fell in a hole. "I'll give you a hand up," the younger Uzbek said to the older. "Then, when you're on solid ground, you can pull me up." The older man agreed, the Uzbeks freed themselves and then went on their way.

The two Kyrgyz men looked at each other grimly, and one began climbing out of the hole on his own. "Hey, you can't do that," yelled the other man, pulling on his companion's legs. "If you get out, I'll be alone and stranded."

Leonard Stringfield was born in 1920. He was director of CRIFO (Civilian Research, Interplanetary Flying Objects) - one of the world's largest research groups during the mid-5Os, and publisher of its newsletter, ORBIT (1953-1957).

He also worked in cooperation with the United States Air Force (1953-1957), investigating and reporting UFO activity, having been assigned a special code number for reporting to the Air Defense Command in Columbus, Ohio.

For over 30 years, Stringfield served in several of the major UFO organizations in a public relations capacity. From 1957 to 1970, he was public relations adviser with the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). Later on, he was Director of Public Relations and a board member of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). He was also a regional investigator for the Center for UFO Studies, directed by Dr. J. Allen Hynek.

Stringfield was an executive with DuBois Chemicals, an international manufacturer. Stringfield retired in 1981 as Director of Public Relations and Marketing Services for DuBois Chemicals, a division of Chemed Corp., after 31 years service with the company.

From 1967-1968 he served as Early Warning Coordinator for the University of Colarado UFO Project, screening UFO reports for possible scientific study.

Stringfield was also an advisor to Sir Eric Gairy, former Prime Minister of Grenada, 1977-78, during his efforts to establish a UFO research agency within the framework of the United Nations.

Stringfield passed away in 1994, leaving a string of fascinating publications behind, one of which is "UFO Crash Retrievals: The Inner Sanctum - Status Report VI," written not long before his death. It is is filled with interesting details about a number of major UFO cases.

Dated June 1991, Leonard Stringfield's sixth Status Report is by far the longest, at 140 pages, but I prefer the first three ones, as they just had details of various reports. With this sixth one, he includes details of other people's findings. He begins by recounting his experience when he delivered his first speech at a MUFON conference in 1978. J. Allen Hynek sat close to the front. A reported CIA official is quoted: "If Stringfield had said certain things about crash and retrievals, Hynek would have taken over." Stringfield states that Hynek demanded names and details from him. (In his book Revelations, Jacques Vallee states that Hynek met Stringfield several times.)

There is more on Roswell. It seems that a B-29 transported the bodies to Fort Worth on 9th July 1947, according to reported eyewitness testimony. As for the bodies, there were "autopsies of midget people with mongoloid heads that were accidentally exposed to high doses of radiation at Los Alamos" and a nurse stated that there were "human experiments for biological and nuclear medicine research." She saw small bodies with deformed heads and limbs and "thought they may have come from Japan after the war." The names Von Braun, Condon , Oppenheimer and Teller are mentioned in connection with this.

The issue of whether bodies associated with the Roswell incident are humans that had been experimented on, or aliens, is not satisfactorily resolved. Another list of names is mentioned: General Groves, Oppenheimer, Bush, von Neumann, von Karman, Steinhoff, LaPaz.

A craft with the same insignia as that on the reported 1964 Socorro craft makes a reappearance, this time near Tong Li Sap, Cambodia, 1972. A US Army Special Operations Group were reportedly engaged in a firefight with the occupants of an identified alien craft. The platoon reportedly happened on a group of aliens sorting human body parts in to large bins and sealing them. The craft reportedly emitted a high pitched hum. The encounter was supposedly reported to a representative of "MAJIC".

Future mind control author Armen Victorian appears in the pages. Also known as Henry Azadehdel, details are presented into his and UFO Crash at Aztec author William Steinman's investigation of Eric Walker, a scientist who reportedly was present at the Kecksburg reported UFO crash. Stringfield also presents Victorian/Azadehdel's interesting investigation into a reported UFO crash in South Africa in May 1989.

There is also an extensive report conducted by the Long Island UFO Network on a reported downing of a UFO at Moriches Bay, Long Island, New York in 1989, including pseudonymous testimony by a supposed scientist who says he discovered the technology on the alien craft to be crystalline-based.

Stringfield also presents details of hoax photos of aliens, including the New Mexico alien with a zipper. Editor of Flying Saucer Review Gordon Creighton stated that Timothy Good considered the photo might be genuine, however Stringfield states, "Facts, however, show that the alien was nothing more than a wax dummy, lying prone under a plexiglas canopy, on exhibition in Montreal, Canada, dating back to 1967."

And like what the book says, you shouldn't just go on a diet just because it is popular.

So - I learned from this book that there is such a thing called an Adrenal Reset, and it mostly checks ones cortisol levels. The book has some resources available online like a quiz to check if you are eligible to take on the diet (because if you are of optimal health then no need to proceed) however if you are on the other categories, then read on.

This is our family's favorite bedtime story

Polar bears are my son's favorite animal, and I always read him a story before bed, so when I saw this book I thought it would be perfect. The book is just the right length to hold a child's attention: short enough so they don't lose interest, but still long enough to ease them into calming down and setting in for bed. The story is very cute. Little bear is tired but not ready to sleep, so his mama takes him to look at all the other animals getting ready for bed. The illustrations are amazing and beautiful. Overall this is just a well written and illustrated book that I think most young children would really enjoy!!

Good Reading!

The Moon Pack is back with a bang. The latest book in the Moon Pack series brings model Jager to the forefront. After being thrown out of his pack for handing over all his money, Jager attempts to lick his emotional wounds with a one night stand. Little did he know he happened to pick growly tiger-shifter Ryder. Ryder may have preferred tiger-shifters in the past but one look at Jager and he knows the man is his mate. There's just a little problem of a kidnapped Alpha pair and his blind brother to deal with first.

It's been a while since I've read any books in the Moon Pack series by Amber Kell and it shows. Book 10, Judging Jager, jumps right into the thick of the action without a lot of backstory or explanation. There are plot lines half finished and others beginning and ending so if you haven't been keeping up with the series and remember most of it, jumping into book ten may be confusing at times. The ease of the writing and lack of any real intricate plot helps since the story is extremely basic without much characterization or plot. I let go of any confusion I felt, which was substantial, and just went along for the ride, as I like the flow and the character outlines.

Jager and Ryder are nominally the main couple here, but really there relationship has no substantial depth or interest. They meet, have sex, and are instantly in love and mated. They don't need to talk or explore their feelings or wants. They're mates so it's an immediate and permanent connection. Once Ryder has decided they are mates, the story shifts into a pseudo rescue of previous characters that are being held hostage in another dimension. This leads to other half finished plotlines, clearly from other books, but really is unimpressive. Basically the couple could have escaped any time they wanted to but just...didn't for some reason. So everyone walks in and walks out pretty easily without any problems. Perhaps having read the previous books in order would help with this issue since it seems important to clear up the kidnapping detail but it happens in the most mundane and almost boring way.

That's not to say the book itself is boring as fans of the series no doubt will greatly enjoy revisiting a number of characters that slide in and out of the scenes and of course the rough, hot sex between Jager and Ryder. It's an easy, almost guilty pleasure read. There are a lot of typos and head hopping between the third person narrators but I suspect no one that reads the series will mind. It's a fun, super short read with some hot sex and continues the series. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is new to the series (they should start at the beginning) but those following this author are likely to be happy.

too rushed

I been waiting for this book for a while and felt that it was rushed in its writing. Pushed out and honestly I feel like the author wanted to just get it done. In the other book in the series I could feel the love the author wrote, this one I did not. So very sad... and I totally lost intesting in the first chapter.

Ryder and Jag was having fun and I like that and Steven and Dare had not so nice start but I am glad to see Steven step up to help Dare. now back to Kylen I would of like to see when farro got the news that his Kylen was not coming back and that he left him a letter saying good buy talk about heart break. may be it me but if Anthony is a god should he know what the king was up too before he took silver there he just walk in there with out taking anybody with him. who walk in to something blandly. he knew it was a trap because the king had his father. and out of all the wolfs he mark as his army only Dare went with the twins Steven Kylen Ryder Jager.
