For any paddler wanting to take a trip down the Pecos river in a canoe, this is the definitive guide and reference book. I own all of Louis Aulbach's books on West Texas rivers. Highly recommended, especially for your inaugural trip. Each of his books includes river maps, historical information, sights to check out, thoughts about rapids as well as information on what to take with you. The Pecos is a harsh environment, and you will want to be prepared. You could piece information together from various sources and perhaps get what you need to paddle the river, but you'll enjoy it more with this guide along to reference and plan your trip.
